You disappeared from the air after February 24, 2022. What happened to you?
“I was in a state of absolute helplessness and persecution... I had three searches, one semi-legal and two illegal. The SBU confiscated all my electronic devices: two laptops and several mobile phones... During the search, they put a gun barrel to the back of my head and threatened to kill me; insulted in every possible way, etc. They also told me not to go anywhere, "because they will find me everywhere." Twice more they came to me to make sure that I had not gone anywhere. There were also conversations in the SBU. The situation looked like you had absolutely no rights, and you could be killed at any moment... During this time, I turned into an absolutely gray-haired person.”
What did they want from you?
“I was bugged: they had a complete dossier on me. They tried to find at least something that forms the corpus delicti. Naturally, nothing was found.
Why didn't you leave on February 24?
“I regret that I did not leave right away - I could have left on February 24-26. But I did not leave - it seemed to me that everything would end quickly. And I did not think that the legislation of Ukraine would be violated as grossly as it is now. Martial law has been introduced, but this does not mean the abolition of the Constitution and the constitutional rights of citizens.”
If it's not a secret, what did you live on all this time?
“I was really left without money - they blocked all my cards. There were several thousand hryvnias in cash. I had to sell the family silverware to survive.”
Did colleagues or acquaintances help you?
“No, some acquaintances disappeared, others had troubles with the Security Service of Ukraine.”
Many Ukrainian opposition TV presenters and journalists changed their shoes after February 24 and started interviewing their ideological enemies. What is it connected with?
“With the most common fear. That is, a person is afraid that if he does not behave this way, they will treat him the way they did with so many. For example, the very well-known case of the Orthodox TV presenter Jan Taksyur, who in his poems very caustically ridiculed the authorities. He was accused of high treason, in March he was arrested by the SBU. This awaits any person who does not demonstrate loyalty to the current authorities.”
How did you manage to leave?
“I jumped out almost by a miracle. I think that this gap will be closed after me: I took advantage of the fact that now you can travel to Poland with an ordinary internal Ukrainian passport. But it was a lottery: I did not hope that I had not been banned from leaving. They didn't deliver, and I jumped out... I left Poland for Kaliningrad, and from there I flew to Moscow. This is my third day in Moscow.
Do you have Russian citizenship?
"Not. But I, most likely, will apply for it.”
