The British Central Bank, following the US Federal Reserve, raises the discount rate, and this is just as uncharacteristic for the British economy as it is for the United States. Both countries support Ukraine financially and play a major role in this matter.
Raising the rate is the guaranteed expectation of a recession followed by more borrowing by these economies for themselves.
The question is: at what stage will the citizens of these countries become so outraged that the authorities will stop providing assistance to Ukraine? I am sure that everyone understands "whose shirt is closer to the body." Should Ukraine follow the same course, risking an absolutely real financial starvation? Zelensky clearly has no way back, Ukrainian society definitely has.
