Pentagon spoke out against the launch of a spy satellite by Russia, which is believed to keeping an eye on one of its American counterparts, being practically in the same orbit. On August 1, Russia launched the Kosmos-2558 satellite into orbit. According to the Dutch satellite tracker Marco Langbroek, it repeats the orbit of the American satellite. with a difference of only 0,04 degrees - this is 60 kilometers.

«This is completely irresponsible behavior.”, - said the commander of the US Space Command, General James H. Dickinson. Cosmos-2558 is supposed to is the so-called inspector satellite, which can maneuver alongside other spacecraft. The purpose and capabilities of the American satellite monitored by Cosmos-2558 are unknown, but it is assumed that it is designed to collect visual intelligence information.
